Bil Simser has announced a new site for the SharePoint Community: SharePointForge

Immediate plans over the next few weeks as the minions get things moved in include:

  • My Site - A place for you to track your own bookmarked sites and projects and generally feel like part of the community
  • Project Help and Hosting - A place to put your stuff if you're a developer and want to show it off. Also a place to look for help from other budding SharePoint developers.
  • Collaboration and Community Projects - A lot of new initiatives that will encompass the entire community both from a contribution perspective and a benefit one.

If you're running Sharepoint on Microsoft Windows Server with MS-SQL and you are getting an error along the lines of “SQLAgent is not allowed to run”, you have to make a small registry change.  Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/MICROSOFT SQL SERVER/SHAREPOINT/SQLSERVERAGENT

Look for the key “GUID” and delete it.

The SQLAgent service should now start up without any problems - but be careful, you're hacking your registry!

"If you're an ASP.NET or SharePoint developer, SmartPart for SharePoint is an active project out on Gotdotnet Workspaces that is definitely worth a look. Yesterday, Jan Tielens, one of the workspace owners, released Son of SmartPart v1.0.

Son of SmartPart (download under Releases) enables you to run ASP.NET 2.0 UserControls and WebParts in SPS 2.0! For the attention-impaired, like me, Jan posted an instructive screencast of the setup steps required to use Son of SmartParts on your SharePoint."
